My Experience writing about Anti-Semitism in Canada
In my second year of my university degree, I took a class on Canadian history. In that class, I chose to write a research paper investigating the views towards Jewish people in Canada in the years between the First World War to the end of the Second World War. In that essay, which is included below, I investigated issues of anti-Semitism and discrimination at various places and levels in Canada. What I argued is that anti-Semitism was prominent at this time because of prevailing attitudes all around the world about what the Jews were doing to the economy. Just because Hitler took things to a radically higher level of persecution than other countries in the world (although not all), it did not mean that other countries, including Canada, did not feel a sense of racism towards Jews at the time. In Canada, the mix of religious, social, political, and economic reasons all contributed to the negative attitudes, and influenced immigration policy which directly affected the event at play here.
